Name that photo: Where in the world is hikerly?
Welcome to a new hikerly series: Name that photo. I am, per doctor’s orders, not very hikerly right now because of an injury to the sesamoid bone on my foot. So what is an outdoors-gal to do without her bipedal mode of transport? Relive my favorite hikes from my photo archives of course!
I’m going to be posting some of my favorite hike photos and you, the reader, get to guess where it is in the comments beneath the post. Bonus points for creative or funny captions.
The prize: Hikerly fame. I’ll be keeping a very unscientific leaderboard with points awarded for accuracy, sense of humor and anything else I think deserves credit, and when we’re all done, the person who has the most points will be honored on hikerly.com and get my personal adoration. What more could you want?
Special thanks to my friend Christine for inspiring me in a recent chat.
We’re starting easy: Can you name that lighthouse?
Update June 22, 2012 The first one was too easy! KMberger wins with guessing it is Point Bonita Lighthouse. This landmark is just over the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin Headlands at the end of a short, relatively flat path from the parking area. It’s still an active lighthouse and a real gem that somehow many San Franciscans have never been too despite it’s proximity to the city. If you are ever looking for a nearby getaway for less athletic family members with all the amazing beauty of coastal California, the Golden Gate Bridge and the ocean, this is it.
Leaderboard as of 6/22/2012
- KMberger – 10 pts
The newly reopened Point Bonita Lighthouse! Bring on the fame (with leg warmers).
Sorry to hear about your sesamoid injury Jodi. Please let me know the severity of the pain so I can know whether or not it’s appropriate to start in on the sesamoid puns.
The pain is nothing a glass of wine and ice pack can’t fix so let the sesamoid jokes begin. 5 points for getting the place right and 5 for being the first to comment on hikerly! (This photo predates the closure though.)
I’ll have to choose a tougher photo next time!
